Common featuring Cee-lo
I got a chance to talk to Cee-lo about this song the other night, I was honored to have Cee-lo show up at Polar, where I was Djing, totally unannounced with the entire Goodie Mob. It’s really hard for me to choose just one to post. But this one, I used to listen to all the time, Common always has him on every album to do a real soulful joint with him.
I’ve listened to all his work for a long time. His catalogue is insane, and it was cool to vibe with him and get props from him. It was cool to have someone at his level hang out and be so complimentary and be willing to take the ride. I played a funk set, a disco set, a motown set, literally nothing was off limits, and he loved it all. I even did a Cee-lo set of songs I knew he had written but hadn’t been featured (I was personally proud of that one.) I got to a point where I’d throw on a song and run over and sit with him get his take and he’d say, “I dare you to play Come on Eileen, I DARE YOU!”
Cee-lo and the rest of the Goodie Mob hung with me from 12-4 which I took as the highest compliment. It was the kind of night that reminds me why I do what I do, and how blessed I am to do it.
Thank God!
